First published in 1936, this is the tale of a sensitive bull who doesn't care to fight, and instead prefers to "sit just quietly and smell the flowers."

Ferdinand has been translated into more than 60 languages and was banned in Nazi Germany for its pacifist message. But reportedly, author Munro Leaf's gentler intent was to "provide a quiet laugh," which may, of course, be the best kind of pacifism.
