For preschoolers: At this age children enjoy working in both clay and play dough (although clay will soon have more allure for its shape-holding strength and heft). Molding, squishing, and adding texture can be done with fingers or with durable wooden sculpting tools. Kids will create the things that interest them — animals, monsters, vehicles, people. But don't expect a child to save all his sculptures yet. At this age he's likely to moosh up the clay and save it for another day.
