This is a book I like in spite of myself. The popular series (which began in 1985) is about a too-good-to-be-true Rottweiler, Carl, and his interactions with quite small children. In an almost wordless story, mother leaves Carl in charge of baby and baby carriage in an upscale department store. Once she is gone, baby climbs out and, together with the dog, tours the departments, getting into one Saturday Evening Post — style illustration after another. Carl is an ugly brute, but lovable.
