Potty Training![]()
18 to 24 months
The time when children may become interested in toilet training varies widely in the United States — typically ranging from just under 2 years of age to well beyond the third birthday. While trying to force a child to toilet train before he is ready is all but guaranteed to be a losing battle, the period between 18 to 24 months is a particularly good age to start casually teaching your child about the toilet and potty, and about the words used to describe his bodily functions. This is also a good time to let him see others in the family using the toilet. 2 years By age 2, many children start to show interest in potty training, and a majority do achieve this milestone at or before 3 years of age. Be sure that a potty seat is accessible, that your toddler gets to observe you and others in the family going to the bathroom, and that you teach your child the words she'll need to know in order to describe her own bodily functions. Most of all, consider this a learning experience, not a battle, and don't hesitate to discuss any issues that may arise with your child's doctor. 3 years A majority of children toilet train before reaching age 4. If your child is not quite there yet, remember that this process involves not only the physical ability to put urine and bowel movements into the toilet, but also a conscious decision on your child's part that he wants to do so!
