![]() Melt My Heart
![]() Peeling (and breaking!) crayons: 14 minutes. Melting crayon wax in the oven: 7 minutes. Using cookie cutter to make hearts: 5 minutes. Seeing her best friend light up at her valentine necklace: timeless. (Or at least pretty gratifying.) Best for kids 4 and up. Heat oven to 300. Place foil liners in muffin tin. (You probably don't want to make more than 6 at a time since you have to work with the wax before it hardens.) Fill each liner with crayon pieces (the equivalent of 3 to 4 crayons, in any combination of colors you like). Bake until just melted, 5 to 8 minutes. Don't let wax bubble. Let cool until wax is still soft but no longer liquidy, 5 to 10 minutes. (Poke a toothpick near the edge to test.) Remove foil liners from tin and gently peel out wax. (It will still be warm, so test before letting kids handle.) Press cookie cutter into wax, then gently push out the heart shape. Poke a skewer through each heart, and leave it in until wax is hard. (You can set the heart down with the skewer propping it up.) Remove skewer, thread a piece of ribbon through the hole, and tie the ends in a knot. (Make sure the ribbon is long enough so you can slip off the necklace and draw with your crayon heart whenever inspiration strikes.) Foil muffin cup liners
