Don't Just Stand There Freezing…
- Bowl: Homemade snow "pins" don't stand a chance against a rolling soccer ball (or a charging toddler).
- Swing away: Leave the swings on the swing set and keep plastic push toys handy. So what if he's lawn-mowing snow?
- Make a mini snow family: More fun and a lot faster than a full-size snowman. Little kids have low standards: Any pile of snow with a plastic bowl hat counts.
- Play games: Ring around the rosy. Duck duck goose. Hide and seek. Freeze tag. Snow adds an extra silly element to the classics.
- Design a snow castle: Bring out the sand toys — nothing with too many details (so snow actually slides out). The next day, after the castle is frozen solid, ids can add toy people, cars, and dragons.
- Roll'er ball: Pack a mound of snow just tall enough for your youngest to reach the top, then push a curving tunnel from the top to the bottom with your arm. The ball goes in, the ball roles out.
- Ramp it up: Pack snow over anything you can make a small slide out of — say, a plastic side table and a sheet of plywood. Make sure it's sold enough to stand on, and let your toddler slide down again and again.
- Freeze something: Anything. A juice box. A cup of yogurt. Different-sized plastic containers of water for stacking and building. For the more advanced, freeze water in a cookie sheet ( or anything shallow and flat) for a mine hockey rink. Use an ice cube for a puck and your hands (or sticks) as sticks.
